As we approach the re-opening of our theatre in May, we need to take on board that the Little Theatre must necessarily now be a more volunteer-led society. The theatre simply doesn’t have the resources it once had to employ staff to carry out all sorts of roles within the society; the pandemic has presented enormous challenges to the theatre, one of which is how to continue to produce quality theatre but with far fewer paid staff. We have to look to our membership to get involved and offer some time for essential activities other than those taking place on or backstage.

It is clear that the Little must become a more volunteer-led society, where all members take part in the activities of running the organisation, whether they be selling ice creams, offering first aid, serving drinks, building scenery, selling tickets or locking up at the end of the evening.

Now is your chance to get involved not just on stage, or in a backstage activity of your choice, but in actually making the society work. We need front of house volunteers, workshop volunteers, office volunteers, bar staff volunteers, volunteers in marketing, facilities management, administration…. you name it, we welcome anyone who wants to contribute in any way.

In these challenging times, we must harness all voluntary efforts to preserve our finances, but also to make the society run efficiently and smoothly. And volunteering at The Little will be fulfilling and hopefully fun!

So if you feel that you have some skills and time to offer us, please let us know by emailing MaryJayne Harding Scott. The more volunteers who step up, the less burden will be placed on others, and the greater the community feeling that we all love about the theatre there will be.
