We come from all walks of life and bring with us a range of know-how, talents and experiences on which the resources of The Little Theatre are built. FoH duties can fit in with a busy work schedule; act as an adjunct to performing art courses; embellish retirement; and provide a network for aspiring actors.

We are a ‘people’s people’, both in our ‘meet and greet’ and safeguarding roles – roles for which reliability and commitment are required. In a distinct black and white dress code, volunteers are the welcoming face of The Little Theatre.


There is no guarantee that a FoH volunteer will see a play or any other event, but duties are numerous, interesting and varied, from customer services, including the sale of sweets and ice creams, refreshments and programmes,  to the auditorium stewards’ responsibilities in ensuring  the health and safety of our audience – all of which contribute to the enjoyment of a visit to The Little by members of the public.


A FOH Manager is appointed to be responsible for the organization of a team of up to seven volunteers for each evening and matinee performance – there are thus seven teams in total.

Volunteers are encouraged to join a specific team, register their availability on the FoH rota for the many and varied events which take place at the theatre.

Induction, training and personal development is a high priority; new volunteers are supervised by a mentor; group/ individual training programmes take place regularly season; preparation for special roles and responsibilities is negotiable.

A FoH Co-ordinator is the link between the other departments and FoH; supporting FoH Managers, interpreting policy, promoting best practice, recruitment and preparation of volunteers for their various roles.


The friendships and social activities within and between teams bind FoH together in a spirit of mutual support and camaraderie. Interaction between FoH and other departments is equally important and, to this end, a variety of social events are organized. We are a ‘Membership Society’, which means we all have a vested interest in presenting all facets of the theatre in the best possible light, thus contributing to its success.
